Kind Words
Emmaus North East was contacted by Richard Barker about donating a range of chairs to the organisation for use in our workshop and to support our work with formerly homeless people in the North East and offered to donate a range of high quality chairs to support us with our workshop project.
‘Emmaus had recently moved into a new workshop premises in South Shields and the chair donation has given our companions (formerly) homeless people plenty to do preparing the chairs for sale to the public. Furniture re-use and upcycling is a valuable skill that companions can learn in our workshop and many companions who come believing they have limited ability and capabilities leave us with a renewed sense of self and belief that they can contribute to wider society and have value.
The donation of furniture from Hill Cross Furniture has allowed our workshop to get off to the best possible start, without the support of North East business and the local community our newly formed (2017) Emmaus community would not be viable.
Having the support of Hill Cross Furniture allows us to work with more formerly homeless people by generating increased revenue and we have been able to donate some of the chairs to people who have nothing through our solidarity projects.
It has been a pleasure working with Richard and Mike directly and I would like to thank everyone at Hill Cross Furniture on behalf of Emmaus North East as it is through such generous donations that we are able to work with more formerly homeless people in the region and together we can work together to end homelessness.’
