OUR WORK WITH SHELTER FROM THE STORM

As part of our continued commitment to becoming more sustainable, and as part of our corporate social responsibility we are always looking at ways to help communities and find new use for products that have reached the end of use in their current venues, rather than sending them to scrap.

Shelter from the Storm – London

We were delighted to supply such furniture to Shelter from the Storm, a free homeless shelter set up in central London. Founded in 2007 by Sheila Scott and Louie Salvoni to provide shelter and support for the homeless and dispossessed, the shelters mission is: ‘to house and support the homeless in London whoever they are, wherever they come from. Our vision is of a society where charities like Shelter from the Storm are no longer necessary’

The scary fact is 40% of the guests are in full time employment and due to London rents have been sleeping in cars, doorways or sofa surfing. In an attempt to engage the local community they have an all-day cafe.

Working with Nandos, we initially donated 62 up-cycled chairs (we would later go on to donated more additional furniture) from the chains restaurants that had recently been refurbished. Each chair was checked over to ensure it was still in good condition, and refinished to give them a new lease of life.

The design of the shelter has been carefully considered to both inspire the guests using the facilities and as being a practical, multi function space.

The space is a truly wonderful environment with a great mission and core values. We are so proud to have been involved in such a dedicated cause and look forward to working with them in the future.
